The ultra-trendy retro-1960’s makeup inspired by Mary Quant is back for all retro-fans who love urban chic!
This is nothing to do with hippies, but based on the fabulous Mod fashion which brought in radical new makeup and stylish, futuristic Op Art clothes from the unique French designer, Courrèges.
Twiggy was one of the style leaders for Mods and this is how to get her famous Bambi-eyed look, with Georgia Jagger taking her place as a believable, retro-60’s model.
One – Base Colour
Paint Silver eye-shadow over the whole eye-lid up to the crease and blend into the inner eye corner. This will be your base colour.
Try Rimmel ScandalEyes Mercury Silver Shadow Paint
Two – Eye-line
With black eyeliner, sweep a line from the inner eye corner and out along the lash line in one smooth movement.
Make the line thicker towards the outer edge and continue until your eye-liner stops under the end of your eye-brow.
Try Rimmel ScandalEyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner – £5.49 for this.
It’s a very easy to use felt-tip, my favourite type of makeup applicator!
I often used ordinary felt-tip pens to do my makeup, ages before they started making proper makeup felt-tip applicators and I expect millions of other women did, too!
So it’s simple to control your eye line and make a broad or fine up-flick, depending how you hold it.
Three – Lid-line
Then use the thin edge of the Thick & Thin eyeliner tip to draw a line back along the eyelid crease ending at the inner eye.
This line should gradually become thinner and finish with a fine line at the nose end.
This needs a little practise, but cotton buds are excellent for keeping the line neat.
Rimmel ScandalEyes Precision Micro Eyeliner £5.49 has an ultra-fine felt tip to speed up the whole process of eye-liner application.
They’re both an intense black and waterproof for 24-hour wear.
Four – Mascara
Then curl your lashes and apply black mascara to the upper and lower eyelashes for lots of contrast in the dramatic black against silver.
Try Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara
It has a special brush they claim give lots of volume and lift to your eyelashes.
But, of course, every mascara claims to have a special brush that’s better than every other mascara brush!
This one is shaped like an ‘hour-glass’ for extra volume and lift.
I love this ultra-trendy and stylish eye makeup and they’ve done the whole 60s look really well.
Great black + white nail art and the ring, giving a super new Op Art look that fits in perfectly!
The Elke Somer blonde chignon is perfect and the Courrèges-style clothes make this an authentic Mod Look from top to toe!
And here’s the Rimmel video ad showing Georgia as a 1960’s Mod – and a very early pretend version of Top of the Pops, showing a clean-cut pop group wearing the smart Italian suits that Mods always wore!
